The
personal specifications of a Bishop of the Congress
are expressed in the following points:
Be a person who comprehends the historic Christian
faith, and its contemporary Evangelical, Pentecostal,
Orthodox and Catholic expressions - who faithfully lives
out a clear Christian faith, and to an extent respects
the legitimate expression of other Churches.
Be a person of spiritual depth and liturgical intellectual
breadth who is astute and, who through preaching and
teaching, will bring a clear message, informed by scripture
tradition and reason.
Be a loyal, prudent and committed leader of a member-Church
of the Apostolic Congress, who brings practical wisdom
to leadership in the episcopal area envisaged/assigned.
Be a prayerful, competent, hard working person with
stability and stamina and who has high standards and
expectations for others too.
Be a firm though considerate pastor, a listener
and a communicator, who will both know the clergy and
communities of their churches and parishes and be known
by them.
Give attention to the formation of new clergy and
licensed lay ministers of high caliber, who reflect
the composition of the Church they serve and the community
in which it is set.
Be a streetwise and an experienced priest of proven
track record and ability, who is able to discern and
respond positively to issues of ethnicity, gender, wealth
and poverty, age and youth, culture, faith, and inter-faith.
Be able to relate to regeneration issues and public
policies affecting the local community and church life
in a specified area
Relate well to the denominations and faith leaders
in an area, and represent the Congress in the area.
Understand and grasp the opportunities that a bishop
is given, to exercise a prophetic, visionary and missionary
role in society.
