Action-Research Programme Leading to Field Work or Academic Award

Introduction to the Programme

The Institute for Community and Development Studies (ICDS) and its partner institutions are raising a strong body of action-researchers to influence investment in the development sector.

We are establishing a scheme for this purpose. Individual participants will be given opportunity to enter a rewarding field practice or a doctoral study pathway, after successfully completing an initial action-research.

Individuals who proceed to a doctoral study pathway in the UK will be interviewed and admitted by The Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (OCMS) - a post-graduate institution of the University of Wales and a recognised institution of the Open University, UK.

How this is happening

ICDS and their training partners are enrolling 300 candidates for action-research undertaking.

Initial Exercise

Each candidate will focus on a specific aspect in the development sector to define, investigate, pilot, and structure for human investment purposes.

Fieldwork opportunities will be awarded to candidates after successfully completing this undertaking.

In the process, candidates will be regarded as part-time workers of ICDS, and serve in a faculty development. They will be given little management responsibility, so that they can concentrate at the sharp end their research work.

MPhil/PhD Pathways

Candidates who want to translate their research work into academic studies/award must organize themselves for research-admission interview by 31 May, 31 October, or 31 January.

Pathway In the UK

  • OCMS will provide the core studies and supervise the research, in consultation with ICDS.

  • OCMS will be inducting and directing the candidates into the appropriate doctoral research tracks.

  • OCMS will be advising in other appropriate areas, as and when necessary.

  • ICDS and the candidates will be responsible for the tuition and other costs in relation to the studies and graduation.

  • ICDS will be expecting the candidates to successfully complete their respective doctoral studies/research in a maximum of 5 years.

Pathway In other countries

Similar approach will be organized for candidates in other countries.

Scholars, practitioners, students, leaders, Church leaders, and other individuals are encouraged to apply to ICDS.
